"Let the Music Play" by Shannon became a Top Ten hit in the United States at the same time as "Holiday" by Madonna. The two tracks made music history by redefining the dance music sound for the 1980s.The original version of "Let the Music Play" peaked at #8 on the mainstream Hot 100. It went all the way to #1, however, on the Billboard Dance Club/Play Chart.
The single was most prominently covered in 1996 by U.K. artist Mary Kiani. Kiani took the track to #19 on Britain's singles chart.
In 2000, Shannon re-recorded the track for her "Best is Yet to Come" CD. She released remixes that year by Junior Vasquez and Plasmic Honey on a collection called "The Lost Remixes
